They uhh, typically don't keep the bottle UNDER THE HOOD; which leads me to
believe that it was something else that exploded.

Well for 1. Liquid Nitrous Oxide is not flammable. Once the nitrous oxide
leaves the tank in the gaseous state it then becomes flammable.
