View Full Version : 5,000 mile wide storm on Saturn
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,228626,00.html
A freaky storm two-thirds the diameter of Earth and unlike anything ever seen has been spotted on Saturn.
The tempest, some 5,000 miles wide (8,000 kilometers), has an oddly human-looking hurricane-like eye. But it is very different from a terrestrial hurricane, scientists said Thursday.
NASA's Cassini spacecraft photographed the huge storm. It swirls with 350-mph winds at the ringed planet's south pole. http://www.foxnews.com/images/238427/0_21_saturn_storm_filters.jpg
And we thought a level 4 hurricane in Florida was bad. Sucks to have no atmosphere EH SATURN?

On topic: I wonder how long the storm will last and how long has it been going on?

That is absolutely incredible Ace... Think about that shit for a minute, Could anyone fathom a Storm, So large, it would take up 2/3 of Earth? Shit... The other 1/3 would be like, HAHAHAHAHA WE RULE THE POPULATION NOW... literally, Because there wouldn't be anything left..
Shit 350mph winds? That's enough to destroy anything man-kind has ever created without any effort.

They're trying to figure out how it formed & is remaining composed so well because Saturn doesn't have much of an atmosphere. I don't think anything like that could form on Earth because of our strong atmosphere (maybe after we poke a few more holes in it...it's possible). Either way...the one on Saturn is absolutely fierce...would definitely level anything on Earth.

They will probably make a movie about it, using it as a human outpost, till the storm shows humans where they shouldnt go. Or how to get the hell out of something that huge and destructive, could turn out to be a cool movie.

Ace, are you fucking retarded? Saturn 'not having much of an atmosphere'? Do you even know what your talking about, much less what an 'atmosphere' really is? I doubt if i mentioned the coriolis effect it would mean anything to you.
AK-88's actualy smart to want my input on this because chances are i'd actually know what i'm talking about here. That and close range saturn hurricane watching is really popular in the future.

Anything out in them star's amazes me, Just like the video posted the other day, About how small we actually are, the Planet scales, and all that, Blew me away, You could fit something like 600,000 earth's into our Main star Arcanus, That's fuckin wild to fathom that distance.
Think about if earth were that size, We'd still be in the Feudal age man, Discovering new speices of "Humans" if you think about it, Hell if we, as humans have only discovered 63% of all the land on earth, and only a mere 7% of the Ocean, think about how far back the distance of that planet would set our Technology... I could go on for day's about this shit.

Thats neat croc, when I am driving like thru mountains and I look at the scenery I always without fail wonder if someone has ever been in that particular area, or could I stop and walk through there and find something no one has seen in 2000 yrs or something. It could happen I suppose.

It's as mysterious as it is powerful
in ordrer for a hurricane to form, it needs water
350 mph winds would be devostsating...and are twice as strong as the most powerful hurricane we know of to form on earth (hurricane Andrew in south florida)
It's also 45 ft above ground level which is 27 ft higher than a category 5 Hurricane would be
Also 5000 miles = 26,400,000 ft

Wrong
Shut the fuck up have you ever even experienced one?
Andrew not only had winds estimated of 175 which is tied as highest and considered the most feared hurricane ever, but it is the most destructive hurricane recorded here in the U.S. ( $26.5 billion in damage with all but $1 billion occurring in Florida) which towers over any other hurricane previously recorded.
Also Andrew's peak winds in South Florida were not directly measured because the measuring instruments had all been destroyed.
suebee stalker
11-15-2006, 10:21 PM
a) Yes
b) Highest recorded wind speed - Hurricane Camille, 190 mph
c) Hurricane Katrina did over three times that much damage
So, basically, other than the instruments being destroyed, everything else you said is wrong. You're making this way too easy.

I was in Florida during both hurricanes so i don't really care what you say so stick to your internet resources i slightly experienced them both
And Andrew winds were never really accurately recorded so it's possible they were greater than 175 there fore making it the stronger hurricane even though Katrina caused more damage
suebee stalker
11-15-2006, 10:59 PM
That post makes next to no sense, but from what I can make of it: I never claimed Katrina was stronger than Andrew (try reading once in a while) but I did say Andrew was not the strongest hurricane ever - which is, as a matter of fact, a true statement. You really ought to try those fancy "internet resources" once in a while, or maybe just a little common sense.
